Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Hakuun'
Pure and quietly luminous, Tulip 'Hakuun' brings a sense of calm clarity to the mid-spring garden. Its large, elegant blooms open in pristine white, each petal of Tulip 'Hakuun' occasionally touched by the faintest whisper of pale yellow along the midrib. This subtle detail lends depth without disturbing its overall simplicity, giving Tulip 'Hakuun' a refined and almost sculptural presence. The white tulip flowers rise gracefully above broadly lance-shaped green leaves, creating a balanced silhouette that feels both natural and composed. Flowering in mid-spring, Tulip 'Hakuun' offers a moment of stillness among more vibrant companions, its understated beauty speaking softly yet confidently.
Reaching around 50 cm in height, Tulip 'Hakuun' is well suited to borders where its clean tones can lift and lighten surrounding colours. Planted in groups, white Tulip 'Hakuun' creates a serene, almost glowing effect, pairing beautifully with soft pastels or contrasting deeper shades. Its dependable habit and perennial nature make Tulip 'Hakuun' a rewarding presence year after year. It also lends itself effortlessly to containers, where its purity can be appreciated up close. As a cut flower, Tulip 'Hakuun' brings a fresh, uncluttered elegance indoors, its blooms opening slowly to reveal their full, graceful form.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
