Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.

Tulip
'Formosa'
Tulip 'Formosa' is a graceful twist on the traditional tulip, offering something a little fresher, a little greener, and altogether more refined. This elegant viridiflora variety produces sunny yellow petals brushed with soft green flames, giving each bloom a painterly, almost watercolour effect. The subtle blend of colours makes Tulip 'Formosa' a versatile addition to the spring garden, sitting beautifully among cool-toned schemes or bringing a calm note to brighter displays. Its slightly flared petals and softly rounded form add movement and lightness—ideal for borders, pots, or naturalistic planting.
Flowering later in the tulip season, Tulip 'Formosa' extends the show just as others are beginning to fade, and it does so with quiet confidence. It’s particularly long-lasting, both in the garden and as a cut flower, holding its shape and colour beautifully. Tulip 'Formosa' thrives in well-drained soil with plenty of sun, and like most viridifloras, it has a touch more staying power than some of the more flamboyant types. Whether you're a fan of subtle details or simply want something that gently stands out, Tulip 'Formosa' is a fine choice.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
