Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.

Tulip 'Double Shake' has only just come on to the market, and we predict it will be a top-selling tulip for many years to come. It almost has a three-way personality: some have likened its flowers to those of a magnolia—and a very beautiful one as well! Then, as the large double blooms open, they start to look more like a peony. This is a soft, creamy white tulip with a subtle and sweet raspberry pink edging around its outer petals. The blooms only get more beautiful as they open to reveal a buttery centre with more raspberry-tinted flecks.
Classed as a mid-season double, this new tulip is wonderful as a cut flower; its strong, tall stems are well able to carry the enormous flowers. Its fragrance is like a perfume, so Tulip 'Double Shake' bears being experienced close-up.
Tulip 'Double Shake' was bred in the Netherlands—the home of the tulip—and it has a wonderful pedigree: its two top-selling tulip parents are 'Shiun' x 'Evita'.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
