Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Copperfield'
Tulipa 'Copperfield' is an exquisite tulip of rare character, its lavish blooms combining the romance of a peony form with the intricate detail of finely fringed petals. Each flower unfurls in layers of glowing copper, rich orange and soft apricot, with subtle bronze undertones that shift beautifully in changing light. Tulip 'Copperfield' has a certain warmth about it, as though it carries the last embers of a sunset into the spring garden. The delicately frilled edges lend a feathery softness, giving Tulip 'Copperfield' an almost couture quality that feels both opulent and quietly distinctive.
In the border, Tulip 'Copperfield' brings depth and richness, pairing effortlessly with dusky purples, creamy whites or even fresh greens for a more contemporary feel. Despite its refined appearance, Tulip 'Copperfield' is pleasingly reliable, thriving in a sunny, well-drained position where its tones deepen as the flowers mature. It also proves a superb choice for cutting, each bloom holding its intricate form while adding warmth and texture to arrangements. Whether woven into a generous planting or given space to shine, Tulip 'Copperfield' offers a thoughtful balance of drama and elegance that rewards close attention.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
