Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Cocoa Blush'
Tulip 'Cocoa Blush' has the sort of colour that makes spring feel suddenly better dressed: warm coral and caramel petals brushed with rose, their pale edges catching the light beautifully. A natural mutant of Tulip 'Chocolate Brown', it carries a similar depth and sophistication, but turns the mood softer, brighter and more romantically flushed. The generous, peony-like flowers open in rounded layers, revealing painterly streaks and a deliciously sun-warmed centre. Tulip 'Cocoa Blush' is especially lovely woven through forget-me-nots, violas and pale wallflowers, where its warm tones glow against cooler blues and purples without ever becoming brash. It has presence, certainly, though with manners.
Plant Tulip 'Cocoa Blush' in generous groups through borders, large containers or cutting beds, giving it a sunny position and fertile, well-drained soil. Its sturdy stems hold the plush blooms with pleasing composure, so Tulip 'Cocoa Blush' works beautifully in vase arrangements as well as garden displays. Pair it with deep plum tulips for drama, soft pinks for romance, or airy spring biennials for that artfully casual look which, naturally, takes a little planning. Flowering in mid to late spring, Tulip 'Cocoa Blush' brings warmth, texture and a mellow richness to the season. It is opulent without being overdone, rather like a good cashmere cardigan in flower form.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
