Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Calgary Sensation'
Tulip 'Calgary Sensation' is a standout variety that brings a fresh twist to the spring garden. This large-flowered tulip boasts creamy ivory-white petals boldly streaked with reddish-pink flames, giving it a painterly, almost hand-finished look. The contrast is both elegant and eye-catching, offering just enough flair without overpowering nearby planting. Tulip 'Calgary Sensation' is perfect for adding gentle drama to borders, mixed beds, or spring containers, where its strong, upright habit and crisp colour pattern can really shine. Flowering in mid-spring, this variety blends beautifully with softer pastels or acts as a striking foil to deeper hues.
Hardy and easy to grow, Tulip 'Calgary Sensation' thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny position, making it a reliable performer for gardens large or small. It’s best planted in groups for impact, where the flickers of reddish pink appear like dancing flames across a sea of white. Tulip 'Calgary Sensation' also makes an excellent cut flower, bringing its clean lines and subtle fragrance indoors. Whether you're new to bulbs or a seasoned tulip enthusiast, Tulip 'Calgary Sensation' offers that satisfying blend of simplicity and style.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
