Buttercup yellow with a flush of apricot, Tulip 'Bright Gem' is one of the most striking of the botanical tulips, but it’s not only its looks that you'll love. Although all tulips are perennials, most of the hybrid varieties are carefully prepared over a period of years to produce one stunning display of blooms—thereafter, you won't get the same results, even if you keep your bulbs. But this natural beauty isn't as fussy as its aristocratic cousins.
Be sure to lift and store your Tulip batalinii 'Bright Gem' bulbs during their dormancy or leave them in place and see if they'll decide to make themselves at home in your garden.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
