Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Blue Diamond'
Late spring can feel a little too pastel until Tulip 'Blue Diamond' steps in with its deep, composed purple blooms. Growing to around 40cm, this double-flowered tulip forms a tidy clump of pale green, lance-shaped leaves, above which the double flowers open with generous layers and a soft, rounded fullness. As the blooms mature, their rich colouring develops subtle grey-silver tones, giving Tulip 'Blue Diamond' a changing, atmospheric quality that keeps the display interesting for longer. It is refined rather than loud, dramatic rather than flashy, and all the more appealing for that quiet confidence.
Use Tulip 'Blue Diamond' to bring depth to borders, especially where softer spring shades need grounding with something cooler and more intriguing. It looks beautiful with blush pink, ivory, lilac, silver foliage and fresh green, and its late flowering season makes it useful for bridging the gap between classic spring bulbs and early perennials. In containers, Tulip 'Blue Diamond' creates a neat, polished display, while in a vase it offers a wonderfully layered flower with an elegant, almost antique mood. For gardeners who prefer their tulips with richness, nuance and a touch of mystery, Tulip 'Blue Diamond' is an excellent choice.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
