This is an exotic tulip with flowers that will be the first thing anyone sees when they enter the garden. The blooms, which appear over several weeks in spring, stand out beautifully from the classic mid-green leaves. This is a very strong grower, but it also has a delightfully sweet fragrance!
Suitable for growing in beds, borders and patio containers, Tulip 'Barbados' is so versatile when it comes to colour matching. It will mix well both with plants of contrasting colours (such as yellow or white), or harmonious colours (such as pink or cream). And those wishing to make a statement in their garden could even plant it with hot, vibrant colours in the same family (such as orange or purple). Do not forget, too, that the strong stems will make this tulip perfect for cutting and bringing indoors for vase decoration. Tulip 'Barbados' is in the tulip Division 7, known as the Fringed Group.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
