'Peacock Mix'

peacock tiger flower

Tigridia 'Peacock Mix', commonly known as the peacock tiger flower, is a bulb that refuses to be overlooked. Each bloom feels delightfully improvised, as though nature decided to layer one flower atop another simply because it could. The large outer petals form a shallow bowl, richly coloured and often jewel-toned, while the centre erupts in intricate markings—freckles, ovals and painterly splashes that look hand-applied. With Tigridia 'Peacock Mix', no two flowers are ever quite the same, which only adds to its bohemian charm. Although each individual flower lasts just a day, new buds open in steady succession, ensuring a lively display over several weeks. Slender, upright stems rise elegantly from pleated, sword-like leaves, lending the plant a light, architectural presence even when not in flower.

Perfect for sunny borders, gravel gardens or pots on a warm patio, Tigridia 'Peacock Mix' brings a distinctly exotic note without demanding tropical conditions. It thrives in well-drained soil and appreciates a sheltered, sun-soaked spot where its colours can truly glow. Despite its flamboyant appearance, Tigridia 'Peacock Mix' is refreshingly unfussy once established, quietly returning each summer with renewed confidence. The mix of colours makes it easy to weave into planting schemes, whether paired with airy grasses or set against calmer greens. Gardeners who enjoy plants with personality will find Tigridia 'Peacock Mix' endlessly entertaining, offering daily surprises and a gentle reminder that gardening need not always be predictable.
