Description
It’s not hard to understand why the sparaxis is also known as Harlequin Flower. Its bright mix of contrasting colours and the designs these colours make on the blooms give its flowers the feel of the harlequins who dressed in very colourful and geometrically-patterned costumes and donned masks for their comic performances in days gone by. The small sparaxis flowers, which bloom in orange, white and cerise, also don a mask of sorts in the centre of their flowers. It too has a very graphic pattern, with heart shaped yellow shapes superimposed on a spiky black background.
"These small sparaxis comedians (the plant only grows to under a foot or 30 cm tall) always make me smile!"
