Description
Enjoy a summer-long show of pink pincushion flowers with this little gem, Scabiosa 'Kudo Pink'. There aren’t many plants that will flower non-stop through summer, but this hardworking Scabiosa gives it its best shot! This utterly charming hardy perennial has soft pink blooms, held on slender, romantically wayward stems, allowing them to dance on the breeze. Plant these pink pincushion flowers in a meandering style among other border perennials and enjoy the soft touch they bring to the scheme. Not only do they bring elegance, colour and a long-flowering season to the garden, but they attract pollinators too. Bees and butterflies can’t get enough of these nectar-rich flowers.
A new introduction from Japan, Scabiosa 'Kudo Pink' is proving to be a winner, popular for its larger-than-average flowers and exceptionally long flowering season. And like other Scabious, it’s also a huge hit with garden wildlife. This pincushion flower is a fantastic choice for a mixed herbaceous border, gravel garden, as soft edging for a path, or in a meadow or wildlife patch. You can also create lovely container displays with Scabiosa 'Kudo Pink', as it stays relatively compact at around 45cm high. Those soft pink blooms, with their pretty ruffled outer petals and pincushion centres, are so easy to associate with other plants and colours in the garden, from blues and purples, to soft whites and silvers.
Try growing Scabiosa 'Kudo Pink' among other low-maintenance perennials such as hardy geraniums, astrantias and gypsophilas for a completely dreamy, easy-care, soft pastel display. It’s also lovely with ornamental grasses like Pennisetum. This is a wonderful long-term plant, and something to look forward to is that it grows back with more flowers every year!
Kudo is commonly misused as a singular form of kudos, conveying praise or recognition for an achievement. Kudos originates from Greek, where it is singular, meaning glory or acclaim.
