Description
Think pink and puffy for your prairie planting scheme or mixed border. Sanguisorba 'Blackthorn' will bring rosy colour, height, structure, movement and pollinators to your garden to help achieve a gorgeously informal late-summer wilderness. Solid poker-shaped flowerheads emerge a deep claret-red colour before bursting out the fluffy pink flowers which form a light-catching aura. This means you get two great looks all in one plant! The show is long-lasting, low-maintenance and incredibly beautiful.
Sanguisorba 'Blackthorn' is quite a tall plant and will be happiest in a border where is has room grow. Thriving in a sunny location with free-draining soil, once it’s settled in its quite tolerant to dry conditions and copes well with heat. This clump-forming perennial will need a bit of time to reach full size but each year it will grow back bushier, taller and more prolific. Try pairing this burnet with other sun-loving perennials like Rudbeckia, Echinacea or Salvia to create a balmy summer combination.

Useful information
-
Soak your Sanguisorba 'Blackthorn' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Burnet" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
