Description

The slender, upright spires of this Salvia nemorosa 'Amethyst' are clothed in purple-pink buds, which open from the base upwards to form beautiful lilac-purple, hooded flowers. This colour keeps coming from mid-summer to mid-autumn. Known as the Balkan clary or woodland sage, the blooms on this member of the sage family are carried high above the clumps of aromatic, mid-green leaves. The habit of Salvia 'Amethyst' makes it an excellent plant for blending with other perennials!

Plant it towards the front or middle of a sunny border in a free-draining soil, or create drifts through a prairie-style garden, where pollinating insects like bees and butterflies will flock to the flowers. ‘Amethyst’ is so highly regarded by experts, that the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has given it the coveted Award of Garden Merit.
