Description
Rodgersia 'Braunlaub' is a statuesque perennial that brings a sense of quiet grandeur to damp borders and woodland-style plantings. In spring, Rodgersia 'Braunlaub', also known as Rodgers' bronze-leaf, unfurls handsome palmate leaves divided into sharply toothed leaflets, each emerging in rich shades of dark bronze that catch the light beautifully. As the season progresses the foliage matures to a deep, cooling green, creating a lush, architectural clump that anchors the planting around it. Reaching around 80cm in height, Rodgersia podophylla 'Braunlaub' has a bold yet graceful presence, its large leaves forming a layered canopy that feels wonderfully generous and full.
By midsummer, slender stems rise above the foliage carrying tall, airy plumes of tiny white flowers that hover like soft clouds above the leaves. These elegant sprays lend Rodgersia 'Braunlaub' a lighter, almost frothy character just when the garden begins to lean into summer abundance. As the season gently turns, the foliage of Rodgersia 'Braunlaub' takes on warm coppery tones, extending its ornamental appeal well into autumn. Best grown in moisture-retentive soil and partial shade, Rodgersia 'Braunlaub' thrives near ponds, in woodland borders, or anywhere its dramatic foliage can be admired up close.
Rodgersia is named after American admiral John Rodgers, whose 19th-century expedition to Asia introduced the genus to Western horticulture.

Useful information
-
Soak your Rodgersia 'Braunlaub' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Rodgers' bronze-leaf" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
