Description
Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' is a refined, shade-loving perennial that brightens the garden with its pristine white flowers. Blooming in early spring, the delicate clusters of pure white blooms create a striking contrast against the plant’s attractive, silver-spotted green foliage. As one of the earliest perennials to flower, Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' brings a fresh, elegant look to borders when much of the garden is still waking up from winter.
Thriving in partial to full shade, Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' prefers moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. It’s perfect for woodland gardens, shady borders, or as ground cover under shrubs and trees. This variety is particularly valuable for brightening darker corners of the garden, offering a beautiful burst of white flowers that light up shaded areas in early spring.
Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' pairs wonderfully with other shade-tolerant perennials such as hellebores, hostas, and ferns. Its white flowers and silver-mottled leaves create a striking contrast when combined with darker foliage plants like Heuchera or the feathery fronds of ferns. It also works beautifully alongside early spring bulbs like snowdrops and cyclamen, adding to a serene and sophisticated woodland planting scheme.
Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' is a magnet for bees and other early pollinators, providing an important nectar source when few other plants are in bloom. This low-maintenance plant is also resistant to pests like deer and rabbits. Over time, it will naturalise, spreading to form a dense, weed-suppressing ground cover that brings year-round interest with its striking foliage and early spring flowers. Hardy and long-lasting, it reliably returns each year with increasing vigour.
Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' is also a fantastic choice for containers in shaded areas. Its compact size and elegant blooms make it a perfect addition to pots on patios, balconies, or in shady corners of the garden. Choose a container with good drainage, and this Pulmonaria will reward you with a long-lasting display of fresh, white flowers and beautifully spotted foliage.
Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' is a graceful, versatile addition to any garden, offering early-season colour and striking foliage. Its ability to thrive in shade, attract pollinators, and naturalise makes it an essential plant for woodland borders and shaded containers alike.

Soak your Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Lungwort" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
