Description
Pepper your summer planting scheme with the fiery red and yellow blooms of Potentilla 'Arc-en-ciel'. Also known as cinquefoil due to its leaves which are sectioned into five lobes, you will see this easy-going plant thrive in places which may be difficult for many other plants—sun-soaked borders, very light and dry soils, areas with little rain—they seem to love it! Potentilla 'Arc-en-ciel' is great if you need low-maintenance plants in your garden which don't demand water and attention all through summer. With very little fuss, once established this plant will put out a great show of blooms which lasts from mid to late summer.
Potentilla 'Arc-en-ciel' is very easy to grow and low maintenance. Whilst it's pretty drought tolerant, you will need to give your new plant care and water while it’s settling in. Once it's more established, you'll find that this plant virtually looks after itself—cinquefoil is fully hardy too and won't need any frost protection over winter unless you experience temperatures of below -20°C in winter!

Useful information
-
Soak your Potentilla 'Arc-en-ciel' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Cinquefoil" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
