Description
Rich in colour yet wonderfully easy-going, Phlox 'Ground Purple' brings a vibrant sweep of purple to the garden while keeping maintenance pleasingly minimal. Growing to around 15–20cm in height, Phlox 'Ground Purple' forms a dense, evergreen mat of fine foliage that quietly keeps weeds at bay and lends a sense of structure throughout the year. In spring, this neat carpet is transformed by a profusion of vivid purple blooms, creating a striking contrast against stone, gravel, or pale paving. Phlox 'Ground Purple' is particularly effective in rockeries, along pathways, or tumbling gently over edges, where its насыщенный colour adds depth and a touch of drama without overwhelming its surroundings.
Commonly known as purple moss phlox, Phlox 'Ground Purple' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it a reliable and unfussy addition to a wide range of planting schemes. Its spreading habit ensures excellent ground coverage, helping to unify planting areas while reducing the need for constant upkeep. Phlox 'Ground Purple' returns year after year with dependable vigour, offering a bold yet refined display that suits both contemporary and cottage-style gardens. Whether used to fill tricky gaps or to create a sweeping carpet of colour, Phlox subulata 'Ground Purple' proves that practical planting can still feel indulgent. A quietly confident performer, it settles in beautifully and rewards with lasting impact.

Soak your Phlox 'Ground Purple' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Purple moss phlox" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
