Description

Phlox amplifolia 'Goliath' is a hardy, tall Phlox—and is a slightly shorter companion to 'Hercules'. It produces tall clusters of wonderfully fragrant violet-purple blooms, each with a white eye, that add height, colour and immediate joy to any summer garden. These flower clusters are fully twice the size of traditional tall Phlox cultivars. The individual blooms are fragrant, while the stems are conveniently strong enough to support the heavy clusters. The densely-packed, lance-shaped leaves are compact, and deep green with prominent veins.

Given as much sun as possible, this Phlox will quickly become a favourite, as its blooms last and last. Phlox amplifolia 'Goliath' is extremely easy to grow, and is resistant to mildew, which can be a problem with some forms of Phlox. It is lovely on its own, or its colour pairs well with other summer-flowering perennials, such as the yellow rudbeckias or pink echinaceas. The flowers will be visited by pollinating insects, and once cut, will last a long time in water.
