Description
The array of gorgeous copper-tinged pink blooms you get on one Peony 'Julia Rose' plant is enough to make your eyes pop out on stalks - this colourway is sensational! Each bloom is unique in its variation of apricot, copper and dusky pink - three of the most adored colours of the moment - all blended together to create the kind of peony plant that dreams are made of.
Whether you like to pick a posy of peonies in early summer of leave them to do their thing in the garden, this pretty variety should be on your list. Intersectional (Itoh) Peony 'Julia Rose' is easy to grow and returns every year to treat you to another fabulous show.
This is a remarkable itoh peony, with stunning large, silky, semi-double blooms that change colour over time. They start with buds of cherry red, opening to young blooms of apricot-orange, and pass through rose-pink with an inner glow of yellow, coming from the depth of the petals. The plant can display three types of colour at once; each bloom can be 10-15cm / 4-6" wide, and there could be as many as 30 open on a plant – making it a truly spectacular garden feature. The flowers also have a rich, spicy fragrance, too. The thick, long, deeply divided leaves become beautifully burnished with a silvery sheen in autumn. 'Julia Rose' will not require staking.

Useful information
-
Soak your Paeonia 'Julia Rose' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
