Description
Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' is a fountain grass with all the subtlety of a well-placed spotlight, sending up distinctive neon-yellow flower stems that rise clearly above its dense, arching foliage. In summer, these vivid stems carry soft, creamy-white plumes, creating a bright, eye-catching contrast that feels fresh rather than flashy. The clump-forming habit keeps Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' tidy and natural, while its attractive leaves provide a graceful base for the upright display. Use Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' where height, movement and seasonal colour are needed, whether in prairie-style planting, contemporary borders, urban schemes or generous containers with a little room to breathe.
Reaching around 120 to 130 cm high and about 40 cm wide, Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' makes a confident vertical accent without overwhelming its neighbours. It is drought tolerant once settled, pleasantly low maintenance, and happiest in average, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Hardy to around -20°C, Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' brings structure for much of the year, with plumes that soften the planting while the glowing stems keep the whole effect crisp and lively. Mass it for a luminous sweep, repeat it through a border for rhythm, or let Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' stand in a pot as a rather stylish exclamation mark.

Useful information
-
Soak the Pennisetum 'Neon Lights' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Fountain grass" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
