Unpack bare roots or rhizomes on arrival and plant them within a week. Until then, keep them somewhere cool and ensure the roots remain slightly moist, never wet.

Paeonia
'Lemon Dream'
peony
Paeonia 'Lemon Dream' is a peony with the kind of colouring that makes a border look as though it has caught a little late-spring sunshine. Its semi-double flowers open in soft yellow, with ruffled petals that can be intriguingly streaked with pink, giving each bloom a slightly different expression. Now and then, Paeonia 'Lemon Dream' may even produce a bi-colour yellow and pink flower, which feels like a charming little surprise from a plant already doing plenty to earn admiration. Light, fresh and gently romantic, Paeonia 'Lemon Dream' brings brightness without shouting, making it especially useful among blues, mauves, creams and silvery foliage.
Plant Paeonia 'Lemon Dream' in fertile, well-drained soil, choosing a sunny or lightly shaded position where its late spring and early summer flowers can be properly appreciated. The softly ruffled blooms sit beautifully above handsome peony foliage, creating a generous, graceful display that becomes more impressive as the plant settles in. It is lovely for cutting too, adding a relaxed, painterly note to vases, particularly when a pink-streaked flower decides to join the arrangement and steal the conversation. Elegant yet a little unpredictable, Paeonia 'Lemon Dream' is a quietly distinctive choice for gardeners who enjoy classic peony beauty with a playful twist.

Remove the packaging straight away, check the compost and water thoroughly if dry. Check the plant’s hardiness before placing it outdoors. Plant into a border or permanent container within a month, choosing the position recommended for the variety. Keep the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water well.
Soak the roots in water for three to six hours immediately before planting. Keep any crown, buds or emerging shoots above the water where possible.
Pot most bare roots into 15–20cm pots filled with peat-free multipurpose compost. Large or depth-sensitive roots, including peonies, are often best planted directly into borders.
Arrange the roots naturally without bending them. Cover the roots completely, positioning the crown and buds at the depth recommended for that particular perennial.
Keep pots in a sheltered outdoor position and water whenever the compost begins to dry. Grow on until roots hold the compost together when lifted from the pot.
Plant into a suitable border or permanent container once well rooted. Add a label and water regularly throughout the first growing season while the perennial establishes.
