Plant nerine bulbs directly outside during spring, as soon as possible after receiving them. They may remain dormant well into summer, so allow them time to settle.
'Amor'
Diamond lily
True red is something of a rarity among nerines, and Nerine 'Amor' wears it beautifully. This remarkable variety produces elegant clusters of brilliant crimson-red flowers, their narrow, gently rippled petals curling backwards to create a graceful, starburst-like silhouette. As each flower opens, its colouring becomes increasingly intense, developing a rich, luminous red that seems to glow in the autumn sunshine. Delicate stamens extend beyond the petals, adding another layer of detail to the intricate blooms. Held on strong, upright green stems, the flowers create a striking display at a time when many summer favourites are beginning to fade. Nerine 'Amor' looks particularly beautiful alongside copper-coloured grasses, purple asters and the warm golden tones of autumn foliage.
Part of the Dutch-bred Elegance series, Nerine 'Amor' combines the graceful appearance of traditional nerines with an unusually vibrant flower colour. Growing to approximately 50–70cm tall, it makes a delightful addition to sheltered borders, sunny courtyards and patio containers. Plant Nerine 'Amor' in spring, choosing a warm position with well-drained soil and leaving the neck of the bulb just above the surface. Its magnificent flowers appear during autumn and are particularly valued for cutting, bringing long-lasting colour to indoor arrangements. As this N. bowdenii × N. sarniensis hybrid has tender parentage, frost-free winter protection is recommended in the UK, especially in colder regions. With its elegant form and captivating crimson flowers, Nerine 'Amor' brings a final flourish of warmth and colour to the gardening year.

Select a warm, sheltered spot in full sun, where the bulbs can enjoy plenty of summer warmth. Nerines grow well in borders and containers.
Plant in fertile, free-draining soil. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost mixed with grit, and make sure excess water can drain away easily.
Plant the bulbs shallowly with their necks visible above the soil. Space them 10–15cm apart, preferably in groups for a generous autumn display.
Water after planting, then keep the soil lightly moist without waterlogging it. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells and allow the foliage to die back naturally.
Nerines flower best once settled, so avoid moving or dividing them unnecessarily. Hardy varieties can remain outside over winter, with a dry mulch offering extra protection in colder or exposed gardens.
