Plant nerine bulbs directly outside during spring, as soon as possible after receiving them. They may remain dormant well into summer, so allow them time to settle.
'Amandi'
Bowden lily
Just when the garden begins to quieten down, Nerine bowdenii 'Amandi' arrives with a wonderful burst of pink. Its magnificent flower heads carry clusters of large, star-shaped blooms in vibrant rose-pink, each petal delicately traced with a deeper pink stripe along its centre. The narrow, gently rippled petals curl backwards as the flowers mature, creating an elegant, almost sparkling appearance. Held on long, slender stems, the blooms seem to float above the surrounding foliage, catching the autumn sunlight beautifully. Their fresh, lively colouring is particularly lovely against copper-coloured grasses, purple asters and the rich tones of fallen leaves. Nerine 'Amandi' brings an unexpected sense of celebration to the garden, offering a final flourish of colour when many summer favourites have finished.
With its impressive flowers and graceful upright habit, Nerine bowdenii 'Amandi' is equally at home in sheltered borders, sunny courtyards and generous patio containers. Growing to approximately 60–80cm tall, this bulbous perennial produces its spectacular blooms from September into November, depending on the weather. Plant Nerine 'Amandi' in spring, choosing a warm, sunny position with well-drained soil and leaving the neck of the bulb just above the surface. Once established, the bulbs gradually multiply, creating increasingly generous displays in favourable conditions. Provide winter protection in colder UK gardens, particularly where the soil remains wet. The long-lasting flowers are also excellent for cutting, bringing a beautiful touch of autumn colour indoors. Elegant, colourful and wonderfully unexpected, Nerine 'Amandi' makes the end of the growing season feel rather special.

Select a warm, sheltered spot in full sun, where the bulbs can enjoy plenty of summer warmth. Nerines grow well in borders and containers.
Plant in fertile, free-draining soil. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost mixed with grit, and make sure excess water can drain away easily.
Plant the bulbs shallowly with their necks visible above the soil. Space them 10–15cm apart, preferably in groups for a generous autumn display.
Water after planting, then keep the soil lightly moist without waterlogging it. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells and allow the foliage to die back naturally.
Nerines flower best once settled, so avoid moving or dividing them unnecessarily. Hardy varieties can remain outside over winter, with a dry mulch offering extra protection in colder or exposed gardens.
