Description
Do a favour for your local pollinators by planting a nectar-buffet bee magnet like Nepeta 'Dawn to Dusk'. Commonly known as catmint, not only does it put on a pretty display of pale pink blooms in summer, but the foliage has a refreshing, minty aroma too. Brush past the grey-green leaves anytime during summer and you’ll bit met with therapeutic, herbal sensory experience to elevate your mood. The buzz of pollinators busying themselves over the blooms is equally satisfying. Forming a dense clump over time, the hardy, resilient and drought tolerant Nepeta grandiflora 'Dawn to Dusk' will demand very little upkeep and will only improve as the years go by.
Nepeta 'Dawn to Dusk' needs a sunny spot and, although typically neat, bushy and upright, a little room to sprawl slightly and form a natural domed shame will bring out the best in it. Once it’s mature, this drought tolerant perennial will look after itself for most of the year and only require a quick chop right back in autumn. In the first year, give Nepeta 'Dawn to Dusk' a little more nurturing to help it settle in. You should get a bare root off to a strong start by potting it up and growing it on for a few months before planting it into a border. Combine this cottage/coastal garden classic with other plants which enjoy sun and light soils, such as Salvia, Persicaria or Verbena bonariensis – your garden will be alive with butterflies and bees!

Useful information
-
Soak the Nepeta 'Dawn to Dusk' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Catmint" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
