Delightful and charming, Narcissus 'White Petticoat' seems to have come straight out of a Beatrix Potter story. Bringing to mind Mrs Tiggy-winkle with her piles of laundry, this miniature daffodil twirls her trumpets like very clean white skirts. Narrow pointed outer petals stick out around the trumpets like neatly-starched collars. The endearing Narcissus 'White Petticoat' is bound to add a note of dainty charm to early spring.
Narcissus bulbocodium are still fairly unusual among daffodil aficionados, but are getting rave reviews from gardeners who are seeking something a little bit different. Despite their delicate good looks, these bulbs are as tough as other daffodils, and don’t demand being fussed over: just give 'White Petticoat' a prime spot in freely-draining soil in sun or part shade. With its small stature, reaching no higher than 15cm tall, Narcissus bulbocodium 'White Petticoat' looks lovely grouped in pots around a patio table, or poking up among rockery plants in early spring.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
