Plant daffodil bulbs from September to November. If needed, store them somewhere cool and dry, away from mice, but plant before they begin to deteriorate.
'Sophia'
daffodil
Narcissus 'Sophia' has an unmistakable painterly quality, each bloom a softly ruffled composition of primrose, cream and a gentle wash of warm apricot at its heart. The petals gather in abundant layers, creating a full, almost peony-like effect that feels both indulgent and quietly refined. In changing light, Narcissus 'Sophia' reveals subtle shifts in tone, from buttery yellow to pale ivory, lending a sense of movement and depth. It brings a certain softness to spring planting schemes, never brash, always poised, and entirely at ease whether nestled among emerging perennials or dotted through naturalistic drifts.
Beyond its beauty, Narcissus 'Sophia' is a thoroughly dependable garden companion. Its sturdy stems support the generously double flowers with admirable resilience, standing firm through the whims of spring weather. Flowering in mid-season, Narcissus 'Sophia' slips neatly between early and later bulbs, extending the sense of continuity in the garden. Plant Narcissus 'Sophia' in groups where its intricate blooms can be appreciated en masse, or cut a few stems to enjoy their sculptural form indoors. Narcissus 'Sophia' pairs effortlessly with cool blues, soft lilacs and fresh greens, creating combinations that feel considered yet entirely natural, the sort that draw the eye again and again.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
