Plant daffodil bulbs from September to November. If needed, store them somewhere cool and dry, away from mice, but plant before they begin to deteriorate.
'Popeye'
daffodil
Narcissus 'Popeye' is a delightfully cheerful daffodil, bringing a sense of brightness and gentle exuberance to the spring garden. Each flower opens with broad, creamy-white outer petals that form a soft, luminous backdrop to the fully double centre, where layers of buttery yellow and pale lemon tones gather in a ruffled, almost playful arrangement. There is a lightness to Narcissus 'Popeye' that feels effortlessly uplifting, its blooms held neatly above attractive, upright foliage that adds structure as well as colour. Flowering in mid spring, Narcissus 'Popeye' offers a fresh, inviting presence that works beautifully in both formal planting and more relaxed, naturalistic settings.
As well as its ornamental charm, Narcissus 'Popeye' is a reliably easy grower, returning year after year with minimal attention and gradually forming generous clumps. Its sturdy stems and well-formed flowers make it particularly suited to cutting, where it brings a soft glow indoors. Narcissus 'Popeye' pairs easily with other spring favourites, from pastel tulips to early perennials, and its balanced colouring ensures it never overwhelms its companions. Whether planted in borders, containers or gentle drifts through grass, Narcissus 'Popeye' offers a pleasing combination of structure, softness and uncomplicated charm.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
