This miniature daffodil has enduring appeal thanks to its combination of melodious spring colours and its tried-and-tested reliability. Pretty soft yellow petals that fade to cream are swept back endearingly on these little blooms, which sport a short, egg-yolk yellow trumpet with a ruffled lighter yellow rim. Recipient of a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, Narcissus 'Eaton Song' flowers reliably from mid-spring onwards. Standing at around 30cm high, with usually two or more pretty 6cm wide blooms per stem, its small proportions are perfect for pots. It has a reputation for naturalising well too, making this little daffodil well-suited to larger displays under deciduous shrubs and trees, where, if massed together, Narcissus 'Eaton Song' will create a charming scene that is likely to repeat year-on-year in good growing conditions. Just give it a site with good, free-draining soil in sun or dappled shade.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
