Narcissus 'Dick Wilden' offers you tradition with a twist – lots of twists, in fact. This yellow double daffodil produces is a far showier than the usual herald of spring: Its orange-yellow pompon of twisting cup segments are delivered on a double-layered server of bright greenish yellow petals. From early to mid-spring these out-facing flowers provide a cheerful parade of colour as they march across the garden bed – and right into a floral arrangement if you feel like taking their bright cheeriness inside. Just be sure to let the blooms open fully before cutting them.
Narcissus 'Dick Wilden' will also make a spectacular focal point if planted in containers on your deck or patio.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
