Plant daffodil bulbs from September to November. If needed, store them somewhere cool and dry, away from mice, but plant before they begin to deteriorate.
'Colour Run'
daffodil
Narcissus 'Colour Run' is the sort of daffodil that seems to arrive with its own patch of sunshine. Each large, cupped flower opens with broad, butter-yellow petals surrounding a softly ruffled cup in warm apricot-orange, delicately brushed with pale highlights that give the whole bloom a painterly finish. There is a gentle confidence to Narcissus 'Colour Run'. Bright and cheerful, certainly, but with enough nuance to feel wonderfully refined. Flowering in mid spring, it lifts borders, containers and cutting gardens with ease, pairing beautifully with tulips, muscari and the fresh greens of emerging perennials. Narcissus 'Colour Run' also has that enviable knack of looking effortless, even when it is quietly stealing the show.
Planted in drifts or gathered in generous clumps, Narcissus 'Colour Run' brings movement, colour contrast and a lovely sense of depth to the garden just when it is most welcome. The softly flared trumpet catches the light beautifully, while the strong stems hold each bloom proudly above tidy strap-like foliage, making Narcissus 'Colour Run' a reliable choice for exposed beds as well as more sheltered spots. It is a splendid pick for natural-looking spring planting schemes, but Narcissus 'Colour Run' is equally at home in a more polished setting where every flower needs to earn its place. As a cut flower, it is charming indoors too, rather like bringing a little spring optimism inside, only without muddy footprints.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
