Description
This is a new muscari cultivar, and it gives a modern twist to the classic blue grape hyacinth shape. Muscari 'Night Eyes' produces grape-like clusters of rounded, deep violet-blue florets, topped by snowy white caps. These sumptuous, rich clusters appear at the ends of flower stalks 15-20cm high, which makes them ideal for growing in patio pots and larger containers, raised beds, on rock gardens or at the front of beds and borders. They even look good naturalised in grass, or at the edge of a wooded garden area. Grape hyacinth 'Night Eyes' will multiply rapidly, with blooms returning every year in ever-greater numbers. Muscari always perform best in light, well-drained soil!
Traditionally, grape hyacinths make good companions to bright yellow daffodils, and despite its darker flower shade, Muscari armeniacum 'Night Eyes' is no different. It also combines well with low-growing species tulips and double bedding daisies (Bellis). Incidentally, the name Muscari comes from the light, musky scent that the flowers give off.
