If you love the blue of spring-flowering grape hyacinths but love your plants to have ‘something different’, Muscari armeniacum 'Fantasy Creation' will be a perfect match for your tastes. Unlike normal grape hyacinths, the florets are doubles, and the fine, many-petalled effect has been likened to the way broccoli florets look. Strange as this simile may sound, it’s fairly accurate – other than the rich blue colour of course. You won’t find Muscari armeniacum 'Fantasy Creation' in all bulb catalogues. It’s an unusual plant for unusual gardeners, and it will definitely make you re-think almost all the impressions of Grape Hyacinths you’ve already formed. Try it this autumn. Enjoy it next spring.
