Description
Floral perfection comes naturally to Monarda 'Bee-Pure', it’s 100% beautiful and, once mature, this hardy perennial will not need much input from you to put on a fantastic show of fascinating purple blooms in summer every year. The petals form an intriguing ruffle-like round and each flowerhead is sat comfortably on an equally showy purple pink-tinged calyx. Each individual flower which forms the flowerhead is nectar-rich and pollinators will make frequent visits, this is perhaps why this plant is commonly known as bee balm. That’s not all… the foliage of Monarda 'Bee-Pure' is aromatic – rub the leaves or brush past on a warm day to release the beautiful bergamot scent!
Find a position in full sun for Monarda didyma 'Bee-Pure', it will grow happily in most soil types but it’s always best to get a bare root started in a pot with compost first, grow it on for a few months so it can establish a stronger roots system in easy, soft conditions and then plant it out into the garden when it looks ready. Every year, this perennial will grow back bigger and better than the year before, this is because the root system grows over time and produces more flower stems. If you like making beautiful informal bouquets, you’ll find it handy to have a few clumps of Monarda 'Bee-Pure' to include, for their colour, unusual form and fragrance.

Useful information
-
Soak your Monarda 'Bee-Pure' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Bee balm" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
