Description
If you want an ornamental grass with that real wow-factor, then Miscanthus 'Strictus' is it! A lovely zebra grass, it develops into quite an upright clump of lush, spiky green foliage. However, what sets it apart from other grasses is its beautiful, striking yellow cross-banding. Many decided to choose this plant for the foliage alone but, as a bonus, in summer and autumn most years, Miscanthus 'Strictus' will produce beautiful silvery feather-like flowers. In fact, this grass is so highly regarded, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has seen fit to bestow upon it the coveted Award of Garden Merit.
Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus' is highly tolerant of soil-type, and although it performs well in a position in part-shade, it will do even better in a position in full sun. It reaches a height of 180-220cm. A deciduous grass, simply cut back the foliage and stems close to ground level in late winter, and wait for the magnificent display to start all over again!

Useful information
-
Soak your Miscanthus 'Strictus' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Elephant grass" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
