Description
Who says you can't create stylish praire-style planting schemes in small gardens? With a relatively narrow, upright habit—Miscanthus 'Red Cloud' is an ideal option for any garden with limited space or for growing in containers. Arching green foliage appears in spring, followed by a haze of feathery, reddish-pink panicles that sway in the breeze. We think this gorgeous grass would pair well with Persicaria 'Alba' to bring serene, sophisticated style to any scheme.
When they turn golden in autumn, don't be hasty to cut down those elegant leaves and stems after they have done their thing. Miscanthus sinensis 'Red Cloud' keep their shape well so can be left on the plant throughout winter—looking simply sublime when kissed by frost! Simply trim them back to just above ground level in early spring to keep things looking tidy.

Useful information
-

            - Soak the Miscanthus 'Red Cloud' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
- Plant your "Elephant grass" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
- Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
- Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
