Description
Make a splash with Lupin 'Salmon Star', an enormous-flowered lupin with whopping 15cm wide flower spikes! These unusual salmon pink coloured blooms dazzle from June to July, their salmon orange tones perfect for setting off neighbouring blues—think alliums, delphiniums, and bearded irises. For less of a colour contrast and more of a blast of fiery heat, try mixing Lupinus 'Salmon Star' with bold reds and vibrant yellows for a hot-themed planting scheme. We love Canna, Alstroemeria, and Achillea for this.
Lupins (Lupinus) are sun-lovers and will do best in a sunny, well-draining spot. They don’t like a lot in the way of nutrients, so the poorer and sandier the soil, the better. If you have heavy, wet soil, you’ll probably do best growing your Lupin 'Salmon Star' in a pot filled with gritty compost. Make sure the pot is a deep one—lupins develop a long tap root and will sulk if this is restricted.

Useful information
-
Soak your Lupinus 'Salmon Star' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
