Description
The bold, handsome flowers of Lupinus 'King Canute' fit brilliantly into a cooler colour scheme with their dazzling purple-blue and white colouring. At 75cm in height, the mid-season Lupin 'King Canute' is on the shorter side and ideal for making a splash at front of a border or as a focal point in a pot. Team it with Allium azureum for a dreamy duo.
Give your Lupinus 'King Canute' a sunny spot, in well-draining soil. Resist the temptation to add manure or compost to the planting hole, as lupins flower best in lean, poor soil. Make life too comfortable for them and they’re all leaf no flower! Regular deadheading (removing faded flower stems down to the ground) will encourage further blooming, as well as preventing plants from wearing themselves out by making lots of seeds! When Lupinus 'King Canute' has finally finished producing flowers, lightly chop back leaving 15cm of stems and leaves.

Useful information
-
Soak the Lupinus 'King Canute' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
