'Red Dutch'
You will want to choose the right place to plant a Lily 'Red Dutch'. It’s shorter than some other orienpet hybrids, only reaching about 1.2m tall, but you still might think the only option would be to plant it at the back of a border. However, you won’t want to miss Lily 'Red Dutch's stunning colour and sweet fragrance when its large outward-facing blooms open from midsummer onwards, revealing yellow petals washed over with orange red. So how about choosing to plant it in a large container or make sure it’s easily accessible to cut for vases? Choose carefully as orienpets are hardier and more disease resistance so could be with you for a long time, multiplying each year!

Choose full sun or partial shade with rich, well-drained soil. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose or soil-based compost with added horticultural grit.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and 15–20cm apart. Arrange them in groups of three to five for a generous, natural-looking display.
Water after planting, then keep the soil evenly moist once growth appears. Avoid waterlogging, particularly while the bulbs are dormant, and never let containers dry out completely.
Add stakes when planting taller varieties to avoid damaging the bulbs later. Remove faded flowers, but allow stems and foliage to yellow naturally before cutting them back.
