Description
Lily 'Purple Prince' is a stunning, sturdy, straight-up, stately lily, with some of the richest of reddish-purple flowers. The large flowers, which are at their best in mid-summer, are upward- and outward-facing—not all lilies are like this—with six petals and prominent stamens. Each flower has a deep yellow throat—and it's fragrant, too. Every Lily 'Purple Prince' bulb produces a single, enormous, unbranched stem, with narrow, pointed, glossy, dark green leaves, sited at intervals and radiating out from the stem in all directions. Stems may be up to 120cm high.
Lilium 'Purple Prince' is one of an exciting new class of Lilium, known as the oriental × trumpet lilies, often seen as orienpets. Their large blooms carry the perfume of the oriental lily, with the strong growth habit of the trumpet lily. They are all hardy, and highly suited to the British climate. Grow it in a sunny or part-shaded border, or in a good-sized patio container. Plus, as with all lilies, it makes a superb cut-flower for bringing indoors.
