Description
Any plant that has been named Glory of the Sun is worth some attention. Leucocoryne is certainly worth considering. Believed to have originated in Chile, this charming plant flowers profusely, throwing beautiful lily-like flowers so wide open to the sun that its petals seem to curl back. In most varieties of leucocoryne the blooms consist of a mix of white and mauve petals, with only the way the colour scheme is applied varying!
The commonest version consists of white petals brushed with a wide mauve edge around centre yellow staminodes which add a touch of extra colour. Other leucocoryne flowers apply the brush strokes differently to get a more striped effect.
