Description
Ixiolirion tataricum or lavender mountain lily is a stunning, low-growing ornamental perennial. This wildflower is native to the steppes and mountains of the former Soviet Union, but can now be found in gardens around the world. It is easy to grow and requires minimal care, making it a great choice for both experienced and novice gardeners. The flowers of Ixiolirion tataricum appear in early summer, with long, delicate stems of bright purple-blue flowers, each with six petals.
The foliage is a soft, blue-green, and the plant can reach up to 40cm in height. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, and is an excellent choice for rock gardens, borders, and other areas with limited growing space. It is also drought-tolerant, making it an ideal choice for dry, sunny spots. Ixiolirion tataricum is a beautiful, hardy plant that is perfect for adding low-maintenance colour and texture to any garden. With its bright, vibrant flowers and easy-care requirements, this wildflower is sure to bring beauty and charm to any landscape.
Commonly known as the Siberian lily or lavender mountain lily, this unusual hardy perennial bulb will produce electric blue umbels of delicate funnel shaped flowers above long slender stems, trumpeting your attention from May into July, dancing a jolly tune above grass like foliage. A dark stripe down the centre of each petal simply adds to the depth of the violet, indigo blue, and contrasts with the bright yellow stamen. Once flowered, this regal triumph will retreat for the hottest periods of the summer into dormancy and rest, ready to proclaim its return for years to come!
