Description
Be wooed by Hydrangea 'Little Spooky'! After all, who could resist such a spectacular little shrub? Pale and ghostly, stout, cone-shaped flowerheads appear to float like apparitions above its dark green foliage, bringing an ethereal luminance to the garden, particularly at dusk as the light fades. The pale green buds unfurl to reveal creamy white bract-packed florets, the overall result is an apple-tinged white froth of full-sized panicles, densely populated on a small, bushy and compact plant. This dwarf shrub is small but mighty, with all the flower-power of its larger paniculata cousins. Growing no taller than around 50-60cm, it remains tidy and strong through the season. A large patio pot is a popular haunt for Hydrangea 'Little Spooky', but it’s happy to loom in borders too.
The flowerheads of Hydrangea paniculata 'Little Spooky' fade gracefully, retaining fabulous architectural qualities which make them worth leaving in place throughout the winter months. They’re also a showy addition to summer cut flower arrangements. This deciduous shrub will take a little time to establish and in won’t reach full size in the first year. But it is tough, reliable, very low maintenance and the display which improves every year. Find it a sunny or lightly shaded spot with moist soil. Although it copes well in sun, it’s best to provide some light shade at the hottest part of the day. Hydrangea 'Little Spooky' is hardy to -30°C so there’s no need for winter protection.

Useful information

Soak your Hydrangea 'Little Spooky' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Hortensia" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
