Description
Slip some safari excitement into the shade by including this extraordinary Hosta 'Zebra Stripes'! With a riot of curly, sinuous foliage bursting forth from a central clump, this ravishing rarity is calling out to be spotted and admired. The shoots emerge near-white in spring and, as they unravel, the wavy-edged leaves develop those striking, contrasting green veins which give this striped variety its name. As the season progresses, the leaves of Hosta 'Zebra Stripes' develop darker speckling, eventually becoming deep green all over. This creates an ever-evolving display which is gorgeous at every stage.
A partial or full shade position is recommended for the zany plantain lily 'Zebra Stripes', particularly in spring when the tender white growth can risk being scorched by too much direct sunshine. Hosta 'Zebra Stripes' leaves hold their white colour longer with just the right amount of light, so an east-facing location which receives some gentle morning rays, but avoids being baked in hot afternoon sunshine would be just perfect! Grow in a moist, rich soil and you’ll be rewarded with a wacky, eye-catching foliage display which strengthens from year to year.

Useful information
-
Soak the Hosta 'Zebra Stripes' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
