Description
Grow Hosta 'White Feather XXL' and enjoy watching it unravel wonderful white leaves in spring which will illuminate the shady nooks of the garden. As spring turns to summer, this unusual giant white plantain lily will adopt green streaks, before turning fully green later in summer. A colour-change feature is always interesting as the planting space will evolve as the season progresses. This giant white plantain lily is just like the much-admired Hosta 'White Feather', only with an upgrade! It's a new tetraploid sport which features thicker, less sensitive leaves. It’s also much quicker to reach maturity than the original variety—perfect for those gardeners who like quicker results!
Notably, the leaves of this improved Hosta 'White Feather' are glossy on the undersides and matte on the top. The curved, wavy edges of this ‘undulata’ type show off this interesting textural difference. When established, Hosta 'White Feather XXL' will produce delicate spires of lavender flowers in midsummer, adding further interest to the display. With a relatively compact habit, it works well at the front of the border, or as a specimen plant in your best pots and planters.

Soak your Hosta 'White Feather XXL' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "White plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
