Description
Think big and think Jurassic: Hosta 'T-Rex' will bring the thrill of prehistoric leafy wilderness to the cool, shady areas of your garden with its massive jungle-like leaves. With just one plant establishing to have a spread of up to 2m, and with leaves each spanning more than 30cm, you’ll be able to fill a big gap with lush, fascinating foliage with the minimum of effort. With its colossal, ribbed leaves, the gigantic 'T-Rex' plantain lily may look intimidatingly spectacular, but it’s just as easy to grow as any other hosta.
Roar-some Hosta 'T-Rex' will take a little time to establish to full size, although you will get a good show of large leaves in the first year too. You can plant around Hosta 'T-Rex' but allow space and ensure low-growing plants won’t be covered by the big leaves. In a partially shaded areas, you could add some colour to the display with some upright plants like Thalictrum, lilies or Astilbe.
Each year, hardy, clump forming Hosta 'T-Rex' will grow a little larger until, after a few years, it’s reached its full, giant mature size.

Useful information
-
Soak the Hosta 'T-Rex' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Giant plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
