Description
The effect you get from Hosta 'Fire and Ice' is lively, leafy chemistry of fresh green and bright white. It's a blast in a dull, shaded area—each leaf is branded with a bonfire of white flame markings, enabling it to light up the space through summer like foliage dynamite. 'Fire and Ice' is a compact Hosta which happily slots into a small gap—perfect if you have pots to fill or just love to cram your leafy plants together like a lush little jungle. For added excitement, this dense display of foliage sends up a cool show of lavender-coloured blooms in mid-summer.
Hosta 'Fire and Ice' is a fully hardy perennial so you can expect to see it appear again and again. It re-emerges each spring, lasts through summer and eventually becomes dormant again in autumn. This shade-loving plantain lily loves to be in a spot which is out of direct sunlight, making it a great option for areas shaded by trees, around shrubs or among other shade-loving plants like ferns, Astilbe, Lamprocapnos or Smilacena.

Useful information
-
Soak your Hosta 'Fire and Ice' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
