Each leaf of this 'Captain's Adventure' plantain lily is slicked with an artistic design of flame patterns in shades of pale, mid and dark green. The leaves are jazzy enough to make a big impact on their own, but this generous plant offers extra interest in mid-summer with a profusion of pretty mauve blooms to top it all off.
Find a sheltered, shaded spot with rich soil for Hosta 'Captain's Adventure' and this hardy perennial will settle in well, growing back each year with a fresh patch of gorgeous greenery. This variety grows to around 40cm tall and wide. Like most plantain lilies, Hosta 'Captain's Adventure' is quick to establish and soon fills a fair space in a border. Soak your Hosta 'Captain's Adventure' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Plantain lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
