Description
Hibiscus 'China Chiffon' is the very essence of late-summer grace—an elegant, bushy shrub that seems to float on air when in bloom. Its semi-double white flowers, each around 10cm across, are gently ruffled like silk chiffon, with dark red streaks painted at the centre for a touch of drama. From late summer right through to mid-autumn, these blooms appear in abundance, brightening borders and terraces just when many other plants are winding down. The dark green, lobed leaves of Hibiscus 'China Chiffon' provide a handsome backdrop to the flowers, their fresh tone setting off the white petals beautifully.
As it matures, Hibiscus 'China Chiffon' forms a rounded, leafy shrub around 2m tall, offering an excellent structure for mixed borders or as a standalone feature. Its late flowering period makes it a perfect partner for grasses, hydrangeas and other autumn stars, ensuring the garden remains lively and full of colour well into the season. With its refined blooms and reliable nature, Hibiscus 'China Chiffon' brings a whisper of the exotic to the British garden—an indulgence that feels both timeless and effortlessly easy to enjoy.
The name rose of Sharon comes from the Bible—later adopted for Hibiscus syriacus to symbolise beauty and resilience.

Useful information
-
Soak the Hibiscus 'China Chiffon' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Rose of Sharon" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
