Description
"Wow! Wow! Wow!" That’s really all we can say about this black daylily. Except, we must try to describe it for you! Hemerocallis 'Voodoo Dancer' has to be one of the most spectacularly coloured, and most unusual of daylilies, that you will ever see. At just around 60cm high, throughout summer this compact plant produces an abundance of fragrant double flowers. Each bloom of Hemerocallis 'Voodoo Dancer' has layers of slightly ruffled petals that are a blend of blood-red to purple-black. The centre (or throat) of each flower is deep golden yellow.
One of the first daylilies bred to offer such dramatic, dark flowers, Hemerocallis 'Voodoo Dancer' is a tetraploid variety, meaning that it has larger and thicker leaves and flowers, stronger flower stalks, more intense colouring, and increased vigour. It is ideal for creating stunning displays at the front of beds and borders, or even in patio containers. Plant your near-black 'Voodoo Dancer' daylilies in full sun or part-shade. Most garden soils will do, in this case even if they are prone to waterlogging.

Useful information
-
Soak the Hemerocallis 'Voodoo Dancer' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Black daylily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
